On Saturday 7th march I went with some friends to the Plaza suite in Sevenoaks, Kent to see the above band. It was a small hall – with no seats and a small bar. It holds about 200 max. What is amazing about this is that Albert Lee is a world acclaimed Rock guitar legend. He lives in L.A and plays guitar with the worlds top musicians. He announced that he had just finished a tour with THE CRICKETS, but I have seen him over the past 20 years as the lead guitarist for THE EVERLY BROTHERS, whenever they have toured the UK. So – here we were in this small hall listening to this very talented group of musicians – fronted by the man himself – playing a mix of Rock and Roll and Country music. The sound was fantastic and musicianship beyond belief. The band was all very approachable and we were able to have a few words with Albert himself. It goes to show that live music is still alive and that Albert Lee loves the music so much that he chooses to play to small groups of very appreciative fans. This was the start of a two month tour of the UK and Germany. My connection to him goes back to the 1960’s when our youth club used to book bands for the Friday nights. Albert was in one of the bands that came along to play – he lived in the SE12 area. One afternoon a local band was rehearsing in the church hall – up on the stage – which also had the church organ on it. Albert turned up unexpectedly and asked if he could join in. He promptly began to jam with the band – playing on the church organ! Great moments. A lovely evening at Sevenoaks – it felt just like I was back in the youth club once again which, by the way, was larger than the Plaza suite! Chunky
